Sheehy Statement on President Trump Protecting Colstrip and Montana Jobs

U.S. SENATE – U.S. Senator Tim Sheehy (R – Mont.) today released the following statement in support of President Donald J. Trump recently lifting a burdensome Biden administration environmental mandate intended to shut down certain coal-fired power plants, including Montana’s Colstrip Power Plant.

“Thank you, President Trump, for protecting Colstrip, Montana jobs, and American coal. It’s time to put an end to the radical climate cult mandates of the Biden era and make America energy dominant. With President Trump back in charge, we are unleashing our resource economy and making energy affordable, accessible, and reliable again – securing a stronger future for every Montana family,” said Senator Sheehy.

Background:
The Biden administration’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) targeted Colstrip by imposing a costly, burdensome Mercury and Air Toxics Standards (MATS) rule that threatened to shut down the plant, devastate the Colstrip community, and eliminate Montana jobs. With this announcement from the Trump administration’s EPA, Colstrip and other coal plants are no longer required to comply with the stringent Biden-era rule for two years.

President Trump’s decision comes after Senator Sheehy joined Montana’s congressional delegation in sending a letter in March to the EPA urging a two-year compliance exemption from harmful Biden-era energy policies to support the continued operation at Montana’s Colstrip Power Plant.
