Sheehy Speaks with Montana Students About Leadership and Service
Sheehy is Encouraging Students to Consider Attending a U.S. Service Academy

MILES CITY, Mont. – U.S. Senator Tim Sheehy (R – Mont.) today visited Lewistown and Miles City to talk with Montana students about leadership and service and help them learn more about attending a United States Service Academy.

“My wife and I met at the Naval Academy and were both proud to serve our country, me as a Navy SEAL and Carmen as a Marine. We both know how rewarding it is to live a life of service after attending a service academy. That’s why I want to encourage the next generation of Montanans to serve, and educate Montana kids approaching high school graduation on all the possibilities they have by attending a service academy or joining the military. There’s no higher calling in life than serving your country, and it is my honor to share this message with young Montanans as we work to help them reach their full potential and nominate the next generation of warfighters for appointment to the U.S. Service Academies,” said Senator Sheehy.

Service Academy Days are scheduled across Montana this April. If Montanans are interested in learning more about the Service Academies, it is highly encouraged that they attend one of these events. Montanans interested in attending a United States Service Academy can learn more by visiting: https://www.sheehy.senate.gov/services/academy-nominations/.

In order to gain admission, Montanans must apply directly to the Academy and apply for a Congressional Nomination. These appointments are offered to those who meet the eligibility requirements and are the most competitive in academic performance, physical fitness, extracurricular involvement, leadership traits, motivation, and aptitude for military service. Graduates are obligated to serve in the military for five years following their graduation. The deadline to apply for Fall 2026 admission is November 1, 2025.

In March, Senator Sheehy was appointed to the United States Naval Academy Board of Visitors by President Donald J. Trump. The duty of the Academy’s Board of Visitors is to inquire into the state of morale and discipline, the curriculum, instruction, physical equipment, fiscal affairs, academic methods, and other matters relating to the academy which the Board decides to consider.

A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy class of 2008 with a B.S. in History, Senator Sheehy completed several deployments and hundreds of missions as a US Navy SEAL Officer and Team Leader, deploying to Iraq, Afghanistan, South America, and the Pacific region. Senator Sheehy met his wife, Carmen, who served as a U.S. Marine Corps Officer, at the Naval Academy.
