Senators Sheehy, Britt, Colleagues Introduce The Laken Riley Act
Washington, DC – Senator Tim Sheehy today announced the first bill he will be introducing along with Senator Britt (R-AL) and his other Senate colleagues is the Laken Riley Act. The Laken Riley Act requires ICE to arrest illegal aliens who commit criminal offenses and requires they be detained until they are deported from the United States. The bill also ensures states have standing to bring legal action against federal officials who refuse to enforce border laws.
“The open-border policies of the Biden Administration failed Laken Riley and her family. I’m supporting this legislation to ensure that violent illegal aliens like the one who murdered Laken find no safe haven in our country,” said Senator Sheehy.
Background: The Laken Riley Act is named for Laken Riley, a 22-year-old college student who was murdered by an illegal immigrant while jogging on campus at the University of Georgia. The killer—Jose Ibarra—had been arrested twice before but released before a detainer could be issued.
